gtd healthcare has secured a trainee opportunity for the nursing associate apprenticeship, which is the first of its kind for the organisation and aimed at individuals who are passionate about a nursing career.

Working in partnership with Bolton University, the organisation is investing in five trainee nursing associate apprentices to work across our organisation. The successful candidates will enrol onto an apprenticeship with Bolton University and acquire a formal qualification while undertaking on-the job training across gtd healthcare’s clinical services. You will be supported by our highly skilled multidisciplinary team and gtd’s training academy. On completion of the course, the trainee nursing associates will be eligible to become registered nursing associates.

What is a nursing associate?
Key to the role of a nursing associate is being a member of the nursing team, helping to bridge the gap between healthcare assistants and registered nurses, contributing to the core work of nurses, and freeing-up nurses to focus on more complex clinical care.

Duties may include:

  • undertaking clinical tasks including venepuncture and ECGs;
  • performing and recording clinical observations such as blood pressure, temperature, respirations and pulse;
  • discussing and sharing information with registered nurses on a patient’s condition, behaviour, activity and responses;
  • ensuring the privacy, dignity and safety of individuals is maintained at all times;
  • supporting individuals and their families and carers when faced with unwelcome news and life-changing diagnoses;
  • recognising issues relating to safeguarding vulnerable children and adults.

Training will take place over two years and three months, the role will be paid and include release for university study. The role is registrable with the Nursing and Midwifery Council. The successful candidates must already hold level five maths and English qualifications (equivalent GCSE grade C) or above to be eligible to apply. Evidence of this will be required at the time of the application.

This qualification gives nursing associates future opportunities to become a registered nurse with a further year’s study.
