Empowering patients, health and wellbeing and strengthening community links were the focal points of a recent engagement event.
Patients attended the Memorial Hall at Simpson Medical Practice’s drop-in morning on 8 December, where they could receive general health checks, advice on how to self-manage their care and speak with representatives from the community.
Lyndsey Tunney, operations manager for Simpson Medical Practice, said the event was a great success and it was lovely to meet and educate patients.
“Attendees had the chance to engage with representatives from bowel cancer screening, Moston Cycle Club and Gateway M40," she said.
“To develop a more efficient and patient-centric healthcare experience, the practice team encouraged patients to take responsibility for their health using digital means, such as the NHS app.”
Other initiatives included providing patients with the option of having their blood pressure checked as well as their height and weight measured. Also, men over the age of 65 were offered abdominal aortic aneurysm screening to help detect aortic swelling early on when it is usually treatable. Following the event, several people expressed their appreciation for the unique opportunity to learn more about their health and wellness while also getting to know the practice team.
