A migrant health project has been nominated as a finalist in the Improving Health Outcomes for Minority Ethnic Communities category at the 2024 Health Service Journal awards.

This recognition highlights the team’s dedication to advancing health equity, which led to the creation of the Migrant Health Passport. The passport aims to improve healthcare access and outcomes for migrant populations through tailored, culturally sensitive support.

Jane Knight, head of specialist services, said it was fantastic for the project to be named as a finalist.

“The event was a great success and it was wonderful to see and hear about other services and projects, and learn how they benefit patients,” she said.

“Being selected as a finalist reflects the impact and commitment of our project. The Migrant Health Passport was developed to ensure that asylum seekers and refugees, who are housed in hotels and may be relocated without notice, can access care and treatment without delay, regardless of their location. It serves as a crucial tool for healthcare professionals enabling effective communication and ensuring that these vulnerable individuals receive consistent quality care and their safety is maintained.”
