Oldham Street Angels were set up two years ago to offer support to people out and about in the town centre late on Saturday nights. This ranges from giving out flip flops to women struggling with high heels and ensuring that those who may be worse for wear through drink are safe.
gtd agreed to a pilot project and arranged for an Advanced Nurse Practitioner and an Advanced Paramedic to spend time with the team to assess what they needed.
Judith Ringland, Advanced Nurse Practitioner, spent two Saturday nights with the Angels. One poor chap she attended had been punched in the face and his bottom teeth had gone through his lip resulting in a deep cut. Judith cleaned him up and advised him to go to A&E to get stitched up. Another poor lad attending a 21st Birthday party in a club in the centre of Oldham got involved in a fight which resulted in him being knocked unconscious with a head injury. Judith provided support to him and the family whilst an ambulance was called.
