Promoting awareness of winter health among Cantonese-speaking patients was the aim of a recent information event.
City Health Centre partnered with Manchester City Health and Ancoats Primary Care Network to host an event to educate patients about accessing healthcare services throughout the colder months.
Charlotte Morrison, care co-ordinator at the GP practice, said the event took place at the Chinese Health Information Centre and aimed to strengthen relationships with patients, ensuring they feel supported in managing their health.
“They gained insights into the healthcare system, the services provided by pharmacies and the difference between emergency departments and urgent care centres,” she said.
“Health checks were also available and a pharmacist took blood pressure and spoke about the importance of receiving the flu and COVID-19 vaccinations.”
The event concluded with refreshments, including a traditional Chinese snack. Those who attended provided positive feedback, stating the session was helpful and they would recommend it to others.
To further support this community, the Primary Care Network and Chinese Health Information Centre have hosted another event for Cantonese-speaking women, focusing on cervical screening.
