Staff from across the organisation have participated in an initiative, which championed relationship-building and improving physical and mental health. Five walks were organised to encourage staff and their families to get active by exploring different parks in Buxton, Hyde, Glossop, Southport and Manchester. The initiative aimed for staff to get to know each other and build relationships with the wider workforce while enjoying various walking trails. Kayleigh Chaney, practice nurse, who joined Elmwood Medical Centre in April and led the first walk at Solomon's Temple, Buxton, said the event was an excellent ice-breaker. “It allowed me to get to know the team outside of our working environment and enjoy some fresh air,” she said. “We all gathered in the car park and then embarked on our journey through the woodland to the summit. There was a slight incline to the top, but there were lots of woodland carvings and information boards along the way, which added more fun to the walk. Members of staff brought their dogs with them, which we all really enjoyed. “The day was relaxing and helped us get to know one another on a personal level. We had such a brilliant time, so much so that we have organised another walk on 22 July!” Katie Schofield, clinical services manager, who organised the initiative, said walking is one of the easiest ways to improve mental health and wellbeing. “It was fantastic to see staff members embarking on a stroll through lovely scenery,” she said. “The aim of the event was for staff to meet with colleagues and discover different parks/walking trails that they wouldn’t usually experience while boosting their mental health and wellbeing.” We recognise the importance of looking after our physical and mental health and strive to provide opportunities for employees to do so by hosting initiatives to improve their wellbeing.
